6 things we verify before an instructor goes live.

Every check is mandatory. No instructor is approved until all six are complete.

Identity
Ontario G licence identity check
Every instructor applicant must submit a valid Ontario G licence for identity verification. We verify the document is genuine, unaltered, and matches the person applying.
Credentials
Ontario Driving Instructor Licence
Instructors must hold a valid Driving Instructor Licence issued by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO). We verify the licence number, class, and expiry date before any approval.
Driving record
Driver's abstract reviewed
A recent driver's abstract from the MTO is reviewed for every applicant. Any serious violations, licence suspensions, or major infractions result in automatic disqualification from the platform.
Vehicle
Vehicle & insurance confirmation
Instructors must provide proof of valid Ontario vehicle insurance and confirm the vehicle used for lessons is in safe, roadworthy condition. Teaching with an uninsured or unsafe vehicle is grounds for immediate removal.
Location
Ontario-licensed & operating
Drive Tutor is an Ontario-first platform. We confirm every instructor is licensed to teach in Ontario and operates within the province's G1, G2, and G licensing system — no out-of-province workarounds.

From application to going live — here's the exact journey every instructor takes.

Application submitted on Drive Tutor
The instructor fills out their full application — personal details, licence info, vehicle, service areas, and lesson offerings — directly on the Drive Tutor website. We receive the submission and begin the review queue.

Identity & credential verification in the app
The instructor downloads the Drive Tutor app and completes secure document verification. This includes Ontario G licence upload, selfie verification, and MTO licence submission — all reviewed by our team.

Drive Tutor
Manual review by our team
Every document is reviewed by a Drive Tutor team member. We cross-check Ontario G licence identity, MTO licence status, driver's abstract, and insurance proof. This step cannot be skipped or fast-tracked.

Approval, activation & pass selection
Once approved, the instructor returns to the website to activate their account and purchase a usage pass. Only after this step do they become visible to learners and able to accept bookings.

What documents does an instructor need to provide?
Drive Tutor may request an Ontario G licence for identity verification, an Ontario driving instructor licence, a recent driver abstract, vehicle insurance, and any additional document needed to confirm the instructor can safely teach in Ontario.
Can an instructor accept learners before verification is complete?
No. Instructors must complete the verification process and be approved before they can appear to learners or accept lesson requests on Drive Tutor.
Is verification automatic?
No. Drive Tutor uses a manual review step. Our team checks documents for completeness, consistency, and eligibility before approval.
Do learners see the instructor before requesting a lesson?
Yes. Learners can preview instructor profile details, service area, lesson types, and teaching fit in the app before making a request. Learners provide their availability when they request a lesson.
What happens if a document expires or no longer looks valid?
Drive Tutor can ask the instructor to update documents, pause access, or remove platform visibility until the issue is resolved.
How can learners report a safety concern?
Learners can report concerns through the app or contact Drive Tutor support at info@drivetutor.ca. Safety reports are reviewed by the team.
